Theater Play: Uncanny Valley

On Friday, October 26th, the Rimini Protokoll troupe from Germany will present their critically acclaimed theater piece: Uncanny Valley.

This performance focuses on important societal questions about robots and people, including important ethical and philosophical considerations surrounding humanoid robots, social robotics, artificial intelligence, affective computing and prosthetic technologies. The theatre performance, which features a humanoid robot and interviews with several international robotics and AI researchers, makes the audience think about how they relate to a humanoid copy of themselves, and what role robots and AI should have in our lives. The robot in some way holds a mirror to the person and asks for deeper philosophical questions. The performance presents very scientific topics in an appealing and accessible manner, bridging the art-science divide through and entertaining and though provoking performance. In Odense, the world-famous robotics industry is focusing on very practical and pragmatic aspects of robots as the drivers of future development. With this performance, we would like to focus on the philosophical aspects of developing robots, especially ones created as our own copies.

We are teaming up with Dynamo to organize this event as this performance is very much in line with their artistic identity and interests.
